The FBI is investigating the background of Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused in the Charlie Kirk shooting case, and is looking closely at his relationship with a trans roommate.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed on Sunday that Robinson was in a romantic relationship with the roommate. “The roommate was a romantic partner, a male transitioning to female,” Cox said. He added that this partner has been “incredibly cooperative” with investigators and was unaware of Robinson’s alleged plans.
While some media reports identified the roommate as Lance Twiggs, the name has not been officially confirmed. Robinson reportedly shared a three-bedroom apartment in Saint George, Utah, with the trans roommate and three others.
In an interview with The U.S. Sun, a neighborhood boy recalled seeing Robinson and his partner together. He described Robinson’s roommate as “getting ready” to transition, saying they had talked about a doctor’s appointment related to it about two weeks earlier. The boy also mentioned seeing Robinson and the roommate kissing once while he was riding his bike.
Authorities are now trying to determine whether Robinson’s personal life or relationship issues may have played a role in the shooting. So far, investigators have not confirmed a clear motive.
The case has attracted widespread attention not only because of the attack but also because of the questions surrounding Robinson’s personal relationships and what may have influenced his actions. The FBI continues to question witnesses and gather details as the investigation moves forward.
