New Delhi, Sep 16 — India’s Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has called the MedTech sector a major part of the country’s healthcare transformation. Speaking through a video message at the 11th Asia Pacific MedTech Forum 2025, he said MedTech is helping to make healthcare more affordable, efficient, and available to all.

“The MedTech sector covers many areas, including diagnostics, high-tech medical devices, digital health, and AI-based tools. These are key in making good healthcare available to everyone,” Nadda said.

He also said that the government’s focus on improving access, encouraging innovation, and building healthcare infrastructure has helped MedTech grow into a trusted part of India’s health system.

Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel spoke about the government’s efforts to support this growing sector. These include:

Patel said India is becoming known not just for making large numbers of devices, but also for producing high-quality ones. “The next big step will come from working together,” she said, inviting global partners to help build healthcare solutions for India and other developing countries.

She also said the government is creating a strong business environment with 100% foreign investment allowed in medical devices, an Export Promotion Council, and a National Medical Devices Promotion Council to boost exports and ease of doing business.

Dr. Vinod K. Paul from NITI Aayog talked about major changes in recent years to support innovation, research, and local manufacturing. He highlighted the National Medical Devices Policy (2023) and the BRICS scheme (PRIP) as key steps forward. Other efforts include Medical Device Parks, a special incentive program, and a new policy to promote R&D in both pharma and MedTech.

The two-day event (Sep 16–17) brings together leaders, experts, and policymakers from over 10 Asia-Pacific countries to plan the future of MedTech in India, in line with goals for 2030 and beyond.
