Jaipur, May 7 (IANS) Tension gripped Rajasthan’s Alwar district after chaos erupted at the Govindgarh police station, where a mob of more than 100 people allegedly attacked the premises over the seizure of a motorcycle.
The crowd late on Wednesday night reportedly indulged in heavy stone-pelting, damaged police vehicles, and injured several police personnel, including Station Officer Dharam Singh.
The incident prompted heavy police deployment in the area. Authorities said the situation has now been brought under control, while efforts are underway to identify those involved in the violence.
Police have been conducting raids since early Thursday morning to apprehend those accused in the attack.
Female police personnel have also been deployed as a precautionary measure.
According to officials, 20 individuals have so far been detained and are being questioned.
Additional SP Priyanka Raghuvanshi stated that a fair investigation will be carried out and strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
According to officials, around 12:00 a.m., two youths within the jurisdiction of the Govindgarh police station were allegedly performing dangerous stunts on a motorcycle, bursting loud firecrackers and creating panic in the locality. The police subsequently seized the motorcycle and brought it to the station. As news of the motorcycle seizure spread, a crowd of over 100 people gathered outside the police station.
The situation quickly turned violent, with the mob allegedly pelting stones at the station, attacking police personnel with sticks and rods, and smashing the windows of police vehicles. Station Officer Dharam Singh reportedly sustained facial injuries during the violence.
After receiving information about the stone-pelting, police teams from 17 stations across Alwar district, led by Additional SP Priyanka Raghuvanshi, rushed to Govindgarh. Reinforcements arrived from Kotwali Alwar, NEB, Shivaji Park, Udyog Nagar MIA, Vaishali Nagar, Sadar Alwar, Tehla, Ramgarh, Naugaon, Laxmangarh, Kathumar, Malakhera, Barodamev, Rajgarh, and Raini police stations.
Police personnel remained deployed in the area throughout the night. Bloodstains were reportedly seen splattered across the police station premises after the clash.
