New Delhi – Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has signed an MoU with HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering for long-term collaboration in shipbuilding. The partnership will combine CSL’s local expertise with HD Korea’s advanced technology.
CSL’s new 310-metre dry dock, opened by PM Modi in January, will be used to build large vessels like Suezmax tankers, container ships, and Capesize bulk carriers, with up to six ships a year. An 80-acre Block Fabrication Facility is planned in Kochi with an investment of about ?3,700 crore, creating around 2,000 direct jobs and more in supporting industries.
The collaboration will also explore new shipbuilding areas, greenfield shipyards, and skill development. CSL signed a second MoU with Tamil Nadu’s Guidance agency and is planning a ?15,000 crore greenfield shipyard, expected to generate nearly 10,000 jobs and possibly a modern ship repair facility.
