Janakpurdham (Nepal): On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, Ram Roshan Das, the head priest and Chief General Secretary of the Janaki Temple in Janakpur, extended greetings and blessings on behalf of the people of Nepal.
Calling Modi a global leader and a strong voice for Sanatan Dharma, he praised the Prime Minister’s role in shaping India’s cultural and spiritual path. He also urged Modi to support Nepal during its current challenges.
“PM Modi is deeply respected and popular in Nepal. On behalf of the entire Sanatan community here, I wish him good health and a long life,” the priest said. “He has guided India on the path of Dharma, and I hope he continues to help Nepal as well. Our country needs cultural and spiritual revival, and India, as a close neighbour, can play an important role.”
Ram Roshan Das also reflected on the centuries-old spiritual ties between the two nations, pointing to Janakpur, the birthplace of Goddess Sita, as a symbol of that bond. “India and Nepal share deep roots in religion, culture, and values. A strong India benefits Nepal too. With rising youth leadership here, I hope Nepal moves forward on the path of Dharma and development,” he added.
His remarks came at a time of political change in Nepal. The country has been facing unrest since a controversial social media ban on September 8 sparked youth-led protests. The demonstrations quickly grew into a larger movement against corruption, nepotism, and instability, leaving dozens dead.
In a historic turn, Nepal appointed retired Chief Justice Sushila Karki as its first female Prime Minister on September 12, following the resignation of K.P. Sharma Oli. Until recently, her appointment seemed unlikely, but she became the preferred candidate of the protesting youth, marking a new chapter in Nepal’s political landscape.
