CNG and PNG gas prices have recently been hiked and motorists are showing drops if the situation becomes as bad as it used to be. CNG and PNG prices rose for the second time in three weeks. Mahanagar Gas Ltd announced that it is raising CNG and PNG prices. The company has released an official statement to this effect.
The company said it was raising the CNG base price by Rs 2.50 per kg in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Similarly, it has increased the price of domestic PNG by Rs 1.50 per standard cubic meter (SCM). Meanwhile, Mahanagar Gas Ltd raised CNG and PNG rates on the 18th of last month. A spokesperson for Mahanagar Gas Limited (NGL) said that CNG prices have gone up from Rs 63.50 per kg to Rs 66 per kg. PNG prices have also been hiked from Rs 38 to Rs 39.50 per SCM.
NGL said it had raised prices as domestic gas allocations fell. The company supplies gas taking into account the growing demand for CNG and PNG. As natural gas prices rise above the market price, the MPL input gas price also rises. This effect fell on consumers. The company raised CNG and PNG prices on the 18th of last month. On December 18, it announced an increase of Rs 2.00 per kg of CNG and Rs 1.50 per kg of PNG.
This has had an impact on 16 lakh PNG customers and 8 lakh CNG customers. The decision taken by NGL has currently had a negative impact on 24 lakh customers. Even before the festival, NGL doubled its CNG and PNG prices in October. This was followed by a rate hike in November and again in December. Despite the hike, CNG is still saving about 59 per cent and 30 per cent on current petrol and diesel prices. PNG is saving 22 per cent on petrol and diesel prices.
