Santiago, March 6 (IANS) The Chilean Health Ministry reported 5,325 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest figure since June 2020, increasing the overall caseload to 845,450,
In the same period, the Ministry reported 90 additional fatalities, which raised the total death toll to 20,928, reports Xinhua news agency.
Meanwhile, 796,791 patients have recovered from the disease so far, while 27,317 remain active.
Health Minister Enrique Paris told reporters that it is still necessary to continue self-care measures and respect quarantines to avoid an increase in infections despite the massive vaccination plan against Covid-19, which has already immunized more than 3.9 million people.
The southern region of Los Rios had the highest incidence rate in the country per 100,000 inhabitants, while the regions with the greatest increase in cases in the last seven days were the central O'Higgins, Santiago Metropolitan and Valparaiso regions, as well as Los Lagos and Los Rios in the south.
A dozen communes in the country will be quarantined as of Saturday, due to an increase in new cases.
