K'taka acts tough on those caught issuing fake Covid certificates

Bengaluru, Oct 27 (IANS) Karnataka health and family welfare minister, K. Sudhakar said on Tuesday that the state government registered a criminal case against a lab technician and Asha worker, who were involved in the Covid testing irregularities at a private hospital.

Speaking to reporters here, Sudhakar said that false negative Covid reports at the Pobbathi Maternity Hospital came to his notice through media reports.

"A team consisting of joint commissioner and health officers was sent to the hospital for inspection, it was revealed that the lab technician who was on contract with Hospital and the ASHA worker who were issuing negative Covid reports," he explained and added that immediately an FIR was registered against them.

The Minister further claimed that a strict regulation will be introduced to rectify the loopholes in BBMP and make sure such incidents are not repeated in the future.

Dr Sudhakar said that as a doctor, the incident has brought him immense pain. "It is a dishonour to the medical profession to make money through such immoral ways," he added.
