Raipur/Bilaspur, April 22 (IANS) In a significant boost to regional connectivity, Bilaspur town of Chhattisgarh is set to be directly linked with the national Capital Delhi through a new flight service commencing on May 3.

Operated by Alliance Air, the service will run every Sunday from Bilasa Devi Kevat Airport, fulfilling a long-standing demand of residents and travellers for seamless access to New Delhi.

According to the schedule, the aircraft will depart Bilaspur at 6:45 P.M. and land at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi at 9:25 P.M., offering passengers a convenient evening travel option.

The introduction of this route is expected to ease travel for professionals, students, and families who frequently journey to the national Capital for work, education, or personal commitments.

It also marks a step forward in strengthening Bilaspur’s position on the aviation map of India. The demand for a direct flight between Bilaspur and Delhi has been persistent for years, with local communities, business groups, and political representatives pressing for improved air connectivity.

The new service is being seen as a response to these appeals, bridging the gap between Chhattisgarh’s cultural hub and the country’s political and administrative centre.

For Bilaspur, known for its educational institutions, medical facilities, and growing commercial activity, the flight is expected to enhance opportunities for growth and integration with national networks.

Alliance Air’s decision to operate the weekly service reflects the airline’s focus on expanding regional routes under the government’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, which aims to make air travel affordable and accessible to smaller cities.

While the service begins with a weekly frequency, aviation observers believe that passenger response will determine future expansion, potentially leading to more flights in the coming months.

The announcement has been welcomed across Bilaspur, with residents expressing optimism that the new flight will not only save time but also encourage tourism and business exchanges.

As the inaugural flight prepares to take off, anticipation is high that this long-awaited link will usher in a new era of connectivity for the city and its people.
