Khalistani Extremist Arrested in Ottawa Amid India-Canada Security Talks

Inderjit Singh Gosal, a close aide of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, was arrested in Ottawa on multiple firearms charges. Gosal had become a key organiser for the US-based group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) after the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023.

This is Gosal’s second arrest in less than a year. He was previously detained over an attack on Hindu worshippers in a Toronto-area temple but was later released on conditions.

Gosal, 36, has acted as Pannun’s personal security officer. Pannun, a US-Canadian citizen from Punjab, leads SFJ, which is banned in India and listed as a terrorist organisation. Indian authorities have filed over 100 cases against the group and its leaders.

Gosal’s arrest comes as India and Canada work to restore diplomatic ties and strengthen cooperation against terrorism and transnational crime, following tensions in 2023 over allegations linking India to Nijjar’s killing, which New Delhi denied.
