The government says the Poshan Maah initiative under the Poshan Abhiyaan has made strong progress in reducing malnutrition.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018, Poshan Abhiyaan puts nutrition at the center of India’s development goals. According to the National Family Health Survey (2019–21), stunting in children under five has dropped from 38.4% to 35.5%, while underweight cases fell from 35.8% to 32.1%.

The campaign promotes dietary diversity, technology-based solutions, and community involvement. Schools and local groups are encouraged to spread sustainable nutrition practices for healthier families.

On Wednesday, PM Modi launched the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah along with the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, part of his vision for “Suposhit Bharat.” This year’s focus is on tackling obesity by cutting sugar and oil use. Modi had earlier urged families to use at least 10% less oil in daily cooking.

The 2025 edition also highlights:

Poshan Maah encourages everyone to take part by supporting Anganwadi workers, creating nutrition gardens, and volunteering in their communities. The goal is a healthier, stronger, and more sustainable India.
