Kerala Police have decided to take disciplinary action against the Station House Officer (SHO) of Prassala police station after he was linked to a hit-and-run accident that killed a 59-year-old man in Kilimanoor on September 7.

According to police sources, the officer, identified as Kumar, will be suspended as part of an internal inquiry while a criminal investigation also moves forward. The South Zone Inspector General’s office confirmed that a report on the incident has been received and further action is underway.

The accident happened between 4 am and 6 am on September 7 at Irattachira near Kilimanoor. A blue Maruti Alto car hit a man named Rajan and sped away without helping him. Rajan lay on the roadside for more than an hour before being taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

After the crash, Kumar allegedly moved the car to a workshop in Neyyattinkara to avoid detection. Police later recovered the vehicle from there.

Kumar, who had been in Bengaluru for another investigation, returned to Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. Kilimanoor police are expected to summon and formally arrest him once they get clearance from senior officials.

A case has been filed under sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections 134(A) and 134(B) of the Kerala Police Act. These charges deal with rash driving, negligence, and failure to help an accident victim.

Police officials said the officer has not yet offered any explanation about the incident. “A report will be filed before the court, naming him as an accused,” one official confirmed.

The case has raised serious concerns, as it involves a senior police officer accused of abandoning a victim after causing a fatal accident. The disciplinary action and criminal case are expected to send a strong message about accountability within the force.
