Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is on a two-day visit to Rae Bareli, but his tour has been marked by protests and political tension. The controversy began after a remark made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Congress event in Bihar, and the issue has now reached Rae Bareli.

BJP MLA Walks Out

At a Disha Committee meeting chaired by Rahul Gandhi, Unchahar BJP MLA Manoj Pandey staged a walkout. Pandey said he was boycotting the meeting in protest, claiming that offensive words were used against PM Modi’s mother at a Congress gathering. “This boycott is a mark of protest. Under no circumstances will insults against the Prime Minister be tolerated,” he declared. He also questioned what development work Rahul Gandhi had contributed to Rae Bareli during his tenure.

Link to Bihar Incident

The controversy traces back to Bihar, where during the Voter Rights Yatra, a youth allegedly made an indecent remark about PM Modi from the Congress stage. That comment sparked nationwide protests from BJP leaders and supporters, and the anger has carried over to Uttar Pradesh.

Protests Before Rahul’s Arrival

A day before Rahul Gandhi reached Rae Bareli, state minister Dinesh Pratap Singh and BJP supporters staged a dharna against him. They raised slogans of “Rahul Go Back” and blocked his convoy about a kilometer from its entry point. Police later intervened to clear the way for his vehicles.

Rahul Gandhi’s visit, meant to focus on constituency work, has instead been overshadowed by the growing controversy. With BJP leaders stepping up their protests, the issue is expected to remain heated during the remainder of his trip.
