Criminal shot dead in Surat, police suspects internal gang rivalry

Surat, July 18 (IANS) A criminal shot and seriously injured by his fellow gang member in Gujarat's Surat succumbed in hospital, police said on Monday.

The deceased is identified as Mohammad Bilal alias Haji Ali Abdul Rehman Poonawala and the alleged assailant was Faiyub Amin Barafwala, police said, adding that the incident took place late Sunday night.

"Both the accused and deceased were members of Mindi gang," Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhavna Patel said, adding that it is too early to give reason behind the murder, but primarly police believes it must be internal rivalry.

The accused will be arrested very soon, she said.

Police sources said that the Mindi gang is involved in extortion, intimidation, getting properties vacated, and some of its members are also accused in attempt to murder and murder cases.
