In the wake of this the Central Government has alerted all the states to be vigilant that the number of hospital admissions due to corona may change rapidly. Monitoring is required of those being treated in hospitals. Union Health and Family Welfare Secretary Rajesh Bhushan suggested that MBBS final year students, junior residents, nursing students and retired doctors should avail the services of hospitals. Oxygen, ICU beds and ventilator facilities were asked to be kept ready.

Bhushan said the current increase in cases was not due to Omicron and the delta was still going on in most parts of the country. "In the second installment of the corona (delta variant), we saw 20-23 per cent of all positive cases being hospitalized. About 5-10% of Omicron cases are now getting admitted to hospitals. The situation is changing. So the number of people being admitted to hospitals will increase, ”Rajesh Bhushan explained.
