Congress on Wednesday adjourned all political rallies and events in election-going states, including Uttar Pradesh, citing the deteriorating COVID-19 situation in the country and warning that these could turn into super-spreader events that could attract thousands of people. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said the sections were sought.

"Congress has decided to postpone major rallies in UP and other states going for elections. We have asked the state units to assess the Kovid-19 situation in their states and decide on holding rallies," Venugopal told PTI. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday canceled a government function in Gautam Buddha Nagar district due to the high number of Covid-19 cases registered in the state.
