Supreme Court- Father should bear the responsibility until the children become Majors

The liability and responsibility of the father to maintain the child continues till the child/son attains the age of majority, says the Supreme Court.

An estranged couple staying away from each other since 2011. The husband (Army Major) applied for a divorce in 2014. An amount was being paid under the order of Army Authorities from November 15, 2012 to the wife for the maintenance of the child.

However, the husband has stopped it since december 2019. The tribunal ruled that children should not be harmed by conflicts between parents. It has directed that the father should pay Rs.50,000 per month for the maintenance of the 13-year-old son.
