Passengers line up at Delhi Metro stations

Long queues of passengers were seen outside various Delhi metro stations for the second day in a row on Thursday morning after authorities imposed fresh restrictions to check the spread of COVID-19 in the city. Delhi Metro officials, who expected passengers to congregate during the New Year, decided not to allow the departure from the Rajiv Chowk metro station after 9 pm that night.

Every year, in the heart of New Delhi, connoisseurs gather to celebrate the New Year at Connaught Place, adjacent to the metro station. However, amid fears of the omicron variant, night curfew is in force from 11pm in Delhi, so crowds are likely to be low.
