Banks will be closed for 16 days in January following Festivals and general Holidays

RBI releases the bank holiday calendar for January. Banks will be closed for a total of 16 days, including various festivals and general holidays across the country.

Holidays are granted under the Holiday Under Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, Bank Account Closing by the RBI.  
 
However these holidays vary from state to state. The customers are advised to plan their bank visits according to these dates.

January 1: New Year Celebrations (Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Shillong)
January 2: Sunday
January 3: New Year, Losung Celebrations (Aizawl, Gangtok)
January 4: Losung Celebrations (Gangtok)
January 8: Second Saturday
January 9: Sunday
January 11: Missionary Day (Aizawl)
January 12: Swami Vivekananda Jayanti (Kolkata)
January 14: Makar Sankranti, Pongal (Ahmedabad, Chennai,)
January 15: Makar Sankranti (Bangalore, Chennai, Gangtok, Hyderabad)
January 16: Sunday
January 18: Thaipusam (Chennai)
January 22: Fourth Saturday
January 23: Sunday
January 26: Republic Day ( all over the country except Srinagar)
January 30: Sunday
