On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet cleared a proposal to change the minimum age of marriage for women from 18 to 21. The proposal brought a positive response on social media. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier said that the proposal was under review.
In his Independence Day speech in 2020, PM Modi had mentioned the proposal. The new proposal will now require both men and women to be the age of 21 to enter into a marriage.
