An Army helicopter carrying General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Defence Staff of India, crashed in Tamil Nadu on December 8th. 14 people were on board including Bipin Rawat, his crew and family members. 13 of them have died on the same day.
The lone survivor Group Captain Varun Singh has passed away Today. Captain Singh was being treated for severe burns at a Bengaluru military hospital after he was moved from Wellington in Tamil Nadu's Coonoor. He had been on life support, according to officials.
Prime Minister Modi tweeted "Group Captain Varun Singh served the nation with pride, valour and utmost professionalism. I am extremely anguished by his passing away. His rich service to the nation will never be forgotten. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti."
IAF informed that he had died of his injuries on the morning of December 15th. The Indian Air Force penned a sad note for the Captain saying "The IAF is deeply saddened to inform the passing away of braveheart Group Captain Varun Singh, who succumbed this morning to the injuries sustained in the helicopter accident on 08 Dec 21. IAF offers sincere condolences and stands firmly with the bereaved family."
