We wished Sridevi and Shah Rukh Khan had done more movies together

One of the most legendary actresses of Bollywood, Sridevi, breathed her last on February 24. The funeral of the actress will take place today evening and will be attended by only family members. Sridevi was an icon, an inspiration to so many. Many term her death as a dark day in the history of Bollywood. She was the most sought after actress of her times and scripts were specially written for her. It was a huge responsibility for her and as the famous saying goes, ‘With great powers, come great responsibilities’. The actress soon started rejecting roles that she believed didn’t suit her status of a successful heroine. And some of these projects later turned out to be big blockbusters. Sridevi who worked with Shah Rukh Khan in only one movie – Army, was earlier offered two films with the actor. She however declined the roles and SRK had to compromise with a mere cameo with her. The actress was considered to play a double role in Shah Rukh Khan’s Baazigar. The roles were written for her but the director duo, Abbas-Mustan got uncomfortable with the idea of having Sridevi on board as they felt that the audience would never be able to sympathise with SRK’s character if he killed her. The role was re-written and two newcomers, Shilpa Shetty and Kajol, were signed up. Now, we all know how successful was the movie was at the box office.

Later the Mom star was also offered Juhi Chawla’s role in Darr, but she declined it for reasons valid enough for her. “After Chandni and Lamhe, I feel Darr would have been an ordinary character for me. If I’m playing Shah Rukh Khan’s role, then of course, I would have loved to do it. The character Juhi played was new for her and so it was good for her. But for me, it was something I had done many times before,” she explained.

Many directors had a conflict of opinion if Sridevi was displaying her arrogance or simply demanding a place that suited her caliber and position. But it was her ‘take it or leave it’ attitude that helped her soar high in the industry. She was determined to never make any compromises and she stuck to her belief till her last breath. Coincidentally, the actress will be seen for the last time on the big screen in a cameo in SRK’s Zero.
