New Delhi, March 16: Using the country's rail heritage at the National Rail Museum as the backdrop, designer Samant Chauhan put up an innovative off-site show as part of the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2017 (AIFW A/W 2017). The highlight was creations in Muga silk.
The line consisted of overcoats, jackets, tunics, tapered churidars and floor-touching dresses.

Chauhan, known for dabbling with simple shades of white and fawn, presented his collection on Golden Threads of Assam. He showcased that the Muga fabric is not limited to only Mekhela chador and saris, it can be incorporated in everyday lifestyle and home decor as well.

Corn fields were intricately embroidered into most of the creations -- a reflection of "memories" that Chauhan has from his growing up days when the "trains from Jamalpur (Bihar) went till Assam".

He experimented with different necklines and models flaunted off-shoulder dresses and ensembles. The dresses also had conical hemlines besides the assymetrical cuts that he is famous for.

"We introduced other fabrics like Eri and about the embroidery -- I derived the motifs from those fields. That was the idea," Chauhan said here.

The four-day fashion extravaganza, ending on March 18, is being held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here.
