'Kurup' is a Malayalam biographical crime thriller film written by K. S. Aravind, Jithin K. Jose and Daniell Sayooj Nair based on the fugitive Sukumara Kurup and directed by Srinath Rajendran; starring Dulquer Salmaan in the title role along with Indrajith Sukumaran, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sunny Wayne, Bharath Srinivasan, Shine Tom Chacko, Surabhi Lakshmi, and Vijayaraghavan in supporting roles. The film score and songs are composed by Sushin Shyam. The film, which took almost six months to complete, is being produced with a budget of around Rs. 35 crore. The movie was highly anticipated by the audience. The film received positive reviews from critics and audiences with praise for the performances, narration, background elements and climax but criticism for the characterization.


On the first day of the film's release, the movie 'Kurup' was embroiled in controversy. A man from Kochi, Kerala has filed a petition in the court against the movie 'Kurup'. The petitioner is a lawyer and claimed to have moved the Court to protect the privacy of the proclaimed offender and to direct the respondents to stop the release of the motion movie as it reveals the secrets of a criminal named Sukumara Kurup. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Kerala High Court seeking to block the release of a Dulquer Salman starrer movie. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice S. Manikumar and Justice Shaji P. Chaly admitted the plea on Tuesday and issued notice to the producers of the movie regarding this matter. With this, there is a suspense that the film may entangle in more controversies in near future. Whether the movie will continue to screen or not is still a question.
