Karan Johar's Kalank is the talk of the town and for reasons more than one. The period drama that looks straight from the handbook of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, spells magic and the trailer is proof. Yes, we are still watching it on loop. That and the bunch of songs like the title track and Tabah Ho Gaye that the makers have dropped to make our wait longer, we assume. The grandeur and gripping tracks apart, the film is poised to break records with stellar acts by the talented bunch of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit.
Varun Dhawan, in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, recently opened up about working with stalwarts like Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit and said, "I’ve got many challenging scenes with Sanjay sir and Madhuri ma’am. Working with them is one thing but getting to do powerful scenes with them is another." The October actor was also quizzed about Alia and him spearheading the film and you'd be surprised to know, he doesn't think that's the case. Or for the matter, that he is star. "I wouldn’t say Kalank is spearheaded by anyone, it is an ensemble film with interesting characters. Some of them are more out there than others because of their personalities, my Zafar is one of them. I honestly don’t know how to be a star, I am still the same person I was back in school. I don’t try to be important," he stated.
When questioned about the crazy female fan who tried to enter his house and gave death threats to girlfriend Natasha Dalal, Varun retorted, "Unfortunately, I can’t speak about this because the police are involved.[sic]" However, he did spill tea about his upcoming rumoured wedding and assured, "It’s not happening right now as I am busy with all my releases. When I decide to get married, I will send out a picture." So, now you know.
Kalank is a cross-border drama set in the 1940s and is directed by 2 States helmer Abhishek Varman. The film is bankrolled under the banners of Dharma Productions, Nadiadwala and Grandson and Fox Star Studios. It is scheduled to release on April 17 and will have an extended week of 9 days.
