Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza & Ciaz break stereotype to become bestselling premium cars in India

Hyderabad Feb 08 : india’s leading carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has always been perceived as a small car manufacturer in the Indian car market. Known for its ‘Kitna Deti Hai’ tagline, Maruti Suzuki has been manufacturing few of the most fuel-efficient cars in India. To break-away from the ‘cheap & affordable’ stereotype, the company announced the launch of NEXA channel of sales with cars like the Maruti S-Cross and the Baleno. In the past one year, the company has been successful in the premium segment with cars like the Maruti Baleno, Vitara Brezza and the Ciaz, which have become the bestselling cars in its respective segments.

According to industry sales data, the Maruti Ciaz, Baleno and the Vitara Brezza have successfully outsold cars like the Honda City , Hyundai Elite i20 and the Hyundai Creta for the period of April 2016 to January 2017. The company has sold 53,644 units of the Ciaz for the said period as against the 45,395 and 13,246 units sold for the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna respectively in the mid-size sedan segment. On the other hand, the Maruti Baleno has sold 96,720 units for the same period as compared to 86,722 & 26,269 units of the Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz sold in the premium hatchback segment.

Coming to the fastest growing compact SUV segment, the Maruti Vitara Brezza sold 88,537 units in the April-Jan period, while the Hyundai Creta and the Mahindra Bolero sold 77,896 and 54,205 units during the same period. Breaking away from the small car manufacturer tag and launching premium products, has been the strategy from the Indo-Japanese car maker. While the company has been largely successful in the premium segment, Maruti Suzuki has plans to launch 15 new models in India for the 2015-2020 period.
