Chennai, May 14:The Metro Rail service between Nehru Park and Tirunelveli in the capital of Tamil Nadu was launched by M Venkiah Naidu the Union Urban Development Minister,on Sunday.
There are seven stations in the sub-terrain stretching over 7 km.
The first stretch between Alandur and Coimbatore was completed in June 2015, the second between Chennai airport and the Little Mount in September 2016.
The new metro route is expected to serve 20,000 passengers per day, with the fares at Rs.70.
Rajiv Narayan Dwivedi,director of Chennai Metro Rail Project, said the project is to complete all the steps in 2018.
