Internacional ties with Santos, vacates 2nd place in Brazilian league

Sao Paulo  :  Porto Alegre-based Internacional played to a 2-2 tie with Santos in the Brazilian football league.

Santos managed to stay in Monday's match thanks to a standout performance by forward Gabriel Barbosa Almeida, better known as "Gabigol," reports Efe.

The draw, however, caused Internacional to fall behind Brazilian Championship leader Palmeiras and hand Flamengo second place in the standings.

Internacional came close to winning the match on two occasions, but Santos reacted quickly with a goal by Gabigol.

Santos focused on winning, pressuring its rival, but was unable to pull off the victory.

With the draw, Internacional is now in third place, five points behind Palmeiras, which is in first place in the standings, with 62 points, and one point behind Flamengo.

Santos is sitting in seventh place, with 43 points.
