India and Chile continue to strengthen their friendship, with India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reaffirming its commitment to closer ties during Chile’s National Day celebrations in New Delhi.
Sibi George, MEA Secretary (West), attended the event on behalf of India. He said India is dedicated to deepening its partnership with Chile, following the direction set during recent talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chilean President Gabriel Boric.
Sharing photos from the celebration on social media, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted: “Secretary (West) Sibi George represented India at the National Day celebrations of Chile. He reaffirmed India’s strong partnership with Chile, guided by the recent meetings between PM Modi and President Boric.”
Earlier in July 2024, PM Modi met President Boric on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After the meeting, Modi posted, “Delighted to have met President Gabriel Boric Font of Chile during the Rio BRICS Summit. India-Chile friendship is getting stronger and stronger!”
In April, President Boric made an official visit to India with a high-level delegation. The trip marked 76 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries, which were first established in 1949. During the visit, both leaders spoke about strengthening cooperation in areas like trade, culture, diplomacy, and people-to-people exchanges.
PM Modi also praised Chile’s participation in all three Voice of Global South Summits, where developing countries come together to share their views and priorities.
At the 3rd summit held in August 2024, President Boric contributed important ideas. Both leaders agreed on the need for global reforms, climate action, and better access to clean technologies for developing nations.
The celebrations and meetings reflect a shared goal: to build a deeper, long-term partnership between India and Chile on global and national issues that matter to both.
