India’s civil aviation sector has seen a major jump in passenger numbers over the past decade. In 2014, about 11 crore people flew by air. In 2025, that number has grown to nearly 25 crore, said Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu.
Speaking at the launch of ‘Yatri Sewa Diwas 2025’ at Hindon Airport, the minister said the goal is to offer better service and a smoother travel experience for every passenger in India.
As an example of growth, he pointed to Hindon Airport. In 2020, it had only one flight. Today, it connects to 16 cities across the country.
“Passengers are at the heart of India’s aviation growth,” Naidu said. “‘Yatri Sewa Diwas’ is not just a celebration — it’s a promise to keep improving services and make flying easier, more comfortable, and accessible to all.”
He also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, saying that air travel is no longer limited to the rich. Through schemes like UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik), more people now have access to affordable flights, especially in smaller cities and towns.
Naidu said the government is working to make all airports Wi-Fi enabled soon, as part of the Digital India Mission, to improve the overall travel experience.
He also encouraged the aviation sector and travellers to support local businesses. “To build a self-reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat), we must be ‘vocal for local’ in all areas, including aviation,” he said.
The minister said the country is moving toward ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India), and the aviation industry will play a key role in that journey.
The launch of ‘Yatri Sewa Diwas’ reflects the government's focus on people-first services and making air travel in India truly world-class.
