Surat marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday with a colorful celebration at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium. The event featured a massive poster, a huge Tricolour, and a ceremonial 75-inch cake that drew hundreds of people.
The poster, created by local artist Praveen Gupta, was painted on fabric and took over 10 days to finish. Weighing around 250 kg, it needed 54 people to unfold it. Alongside the artwork, a 30x20 ft Indian flag was hoisted. The flag will also remain on display during the upcoming India-Sri Lanka women’s cricket tournament at the same venue.
“We wanted to make this birthday unforgettable for our beloved Prime Minister. This poster is the result of weeks of hard work. I wish him a very happy birthday,” said Gupta.
Spectators shared their excitement too. “It’s amazing to see such a huge flag on PM Modi’s 75th birthday. Wishing him a long and healthy life,” said attendee Manasi Ghosh.
DSK Rathi, General Secretary of the Surat District Cricket Association, added, “We’ve celebrated this special day with full enthusiasm and hope to see PM Modi continue his inspiring leadership.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also launched a two-week campaign, Sewa Pakhwada (Sept 17–Oct 2), to mark the occasion. The initiative includes blood donation camps, cleanliness drives, the NaMo Yuva Run, and new projects like the Suman Sakhi chatbot and Ek Bagicha Maa Ke Naam plantation drive.
Born on September 17, 1950, in Gujarat’s Mehsana district, Modi rose from modest beginnings to become Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014. He has been serving as India’s Prime Minister since 2014 and is now in his third term.
At 17, he left home to travel across the country before joining the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), where long, disciplined days shaped his early life. Inspired by Swami Vivekananda, Modi embraced a path of spirituality and service that continues to guide his political journey.
