Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday shared an article on X highlighting how India has changed through digital reforms in the past decade. He said India’s “digital decade” is not only about technology but about transformation, and the journey is just beginning.

The article, written by Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh, described how India’s digital revolution has reached almost every part of life—economy, governance, education, healthcare, and even farming. What started as small technology projects has now become a nationwide shift that benefits both cities and remote villages.

Singh explained that this progress was the result of careful planning by the government, bold policies, and teamwork across ministries. Agencies like the Ministry of Electronics and IT, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Agriculture carried out large projects, while NITI Aayog guided the overall policy and focus on citizen-first innovation.

A major turning point came with the JAM trinity (Jan Dhan bank accounts, Aadhaar, and mobile). More than 55 crore bank accounts were opened, giving millions of people access to financial services and direct benefit transfers. For example, a single mother in a small Odisha village was able to get welfare money directly into her account, without middlemen—a story repeated across India.

This foundation paved the way for the fintech boom. The Unified Payments Interface (UPI), developed by the National Payments Corporation of India under RBI guidance, changed how people handle money. What started as a way to transfer funds between friends is now used by small shops, vegetable sellers, and gig workers across the country.

Today, India sees over 17 billion UPI transactions every month. Even roadside vendors accept payments through a simple QR code, showing how deeply digital systems have become part of everyday life.
