Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tripura on September 22 to inaugurate the redeveloped Tripureswari temple, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Saturday. Speaking at the Neermahal Jal Utsav in Sepahijala district, Saha said he had personally invited the Prime Minister, who agreed to attend and offer prayers at the temple.
The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s focus on promoting spiritual tourism. He shared that replicas of all 51 Shakti Piths are being built at Bandower in Gomati district at a cost of Rs 97 crore. “Since the Shakti Piths are spread across countries like Bangladesh and Nepal, it is difficult to visit them all. Once the replicas are ready, devotees can see all of them in one place,” Saha explained.
He also called on people to spread awareness about Neermahal, the iconic water palace in Tripura, through social media. Drawing a comparison, Saha said the beauty of Neermahal is on par with the famous lake palace in Udaipur but remains less known. “I request everyone to promote Neermahal on social platforms so more people come to know about it,” he said.
Neermahal, built by Maharaja Bir Bikram in 1930, stands in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake and was declared a Ramsar site in 2007, recognizing its ecological importance. The Jal Utsav, celebrated with cultural programs and boat races, is part of efforts to attract more visitors to the palace and the region.
With the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit, Tripura is preparing not only for a major religious event but also for a boost in tourism, both spiritual and cultural.
