A shocking murder in Dallas has sparked strong political reactions in the United States. Chandra Nagamallaiah, a 50-year-old Indian-origin motel manager, was brutally beheaded in front of his wife and son on September 12.
The attacker, identified as 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez from Cuba, was arrested soon after the incident. Both men worked at the Downtown Suites motel on Samuell Boulevard.
According to police, the violence began with a simple argument over a broken washing machine. Nagamallaiah had asked Cobos-Martinez and another staff member not to use the faulty machine. Investigators said Cobos-Martinez became angry because the request was passed through the other employee instead of being told directly to him. Minutes later, he allegedly left, returned with a machete, and carried out the gruesome attack in front of the victim’s family.
Nagamallaiah was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved. The suspect is now in custody and will face first-degree murder charges, according to authorities.
The case has drawn national attention after former U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on Truth Social. He called Nagamallaiah a “well-respected person in Dallas” who was killed by an “illegal alien from Cuba who should have never been in our country.”
Trump promised tougher action on illegal immigration, declaring, “The time for being soft on these Illegal Immigrant Criminals is over under my watch!” He also praised Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Border Czar Tom Homan for their efforts to “make America safe again.”
Trump’s statement has reignited debate over immigration policies and how such cases are handled. Supporters argue it shows the dangers of weak border control, while critics say he is using a tragedy to push his political agenda.
For now, the Dallas community is mourning the brutal death of Nagamallaiah, remembered as a hardworking family man whose life ended in an act of senseless violence.
