New Delhi: Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah, a 50-year-old motel manager, was brutally killed in Dallas, US, on September 10. Police said he was attacked by his co-worker with a machete after an argument at the motel where he worked.

Mouli was originally from Dharmavaram in Andhra Pradesh but spent most of his life in Bengaluru. He studied at Indiranagar Cambridge School and National College, Basavanagudi. In Bengaluru, he ran several small businesses, including a successful PG accommodation. Neighbours in RT Nagar described him as humble, kind, and generous.

In 2018, Mouli moved to the US, first living in San Antonio before settling in Dallas. For the past five years, he managed a motel and often spoke about expanding into the hospitality business with his sister and brother-in-law, who already operate a venture in Texas.

Friends remembered him as gentle, hardworking, and family-focused. His classmate Sailas Nulaka called him “the humblest friend” he had ever known. Another friend, Abilash Reddy, said Mouli’s family was deeply respected in Bengaluru. Two years ago, the family renovated their Bengaluru home into a PG, where neighbours recalled them as welcoming and helpful.

Mouli’s 18-year-old son, Gaurav, is preparing to study hospitality management with hopes of fulfilling his father’s dream.

According to police, the accused, 37-year-old Cuban national Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, attacked Mouli during a dispute over translating instructions about a broken washing machine. Reports said the attack happened in front of Mouli’s wife and son. Investigators added that Cobos-Martinez later disposed of Mouli’s head in a dumpster. He has been arrested and charged with capital murder.

The tragic killing has left Mouli’s family and friends devastated. Many remember him as a hardworking man who built his life through dedication and kindness, only for it to be cut short in a shocking act of violence.
