Bengaluru: Known as India’s tech capital, Bengaluru is often seen as a city full of opportunities. But a recent sight has sparked debate online about the city’s tougher realities.
A man claiming to have 14 years of banking experience was spotted sitting on a pavement near a busy signal, holding a board that said he had lost both his job and his home. The image surprised many, as someone with such long experience is usually assumed to have financial stability.
Viral Post Sparks Debate
A Reddit user shared the man’s photo, writing: *“Came across this man at a prominent Bengaluru signal. It’s heartbreaking to see him like this. But I keep wondering— is this society’s failure or his personal choices?”
The man’s board reportedly read: “I don’t have a job, no house, please help me. I have 14 years of banking experience.”
The post quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions. Some users showed sympathy, calling him a victim of harsh times, while others questioned his decisions.
Reactions From Social Media
One commenter wrote, “Everyone is struggling in their life. Unless you come from a wealthy family, you have to fight your own battles. Bengaluru offers opportunities, so unless he has some physical disability, there’s no reason for him to be in this situation.”
Others were more empathetic, pointing out the mental impact of unemployment. “If you’re jobless for a long time, you can become mentally broken and depressed. It’s not always about physical ability—sometimes it’s a mental barrier,” a user said.
Some highlighted larger systemic issues, saying the country doesn’t create enough jobs even for fresh graduates.
However, not everyone agreed. One person claimed they had offered him work, but he refused, adding that he is often seen sitting near Someshwara Temple on Mondays and Subramanya Temple in Halasuru on Tuesdays.
Bigger Picture
The man’s situation has triggered conversations about unemployment, mental health, and the growing gap between expectations and realities in India’s job market—especially in a city that represents the country’s tech ambitions.
