Bhabananda won the state's lone Rajya Sabha seat, the election for which was held on Thursday. In the 60-member Manipur assembly, the Bhabanada opposition Congress defeated the rival Elangambagh Bindhwamani by 18 votes. He won 39 votes to 21 votes.
