Bengal varsity to honour Bangladesh PM with D. Litt

Kolkata, May 13 (IANS) Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be conferred an honorary Doctor of Literature degree by the Kazi Nazrul University in West Bengal's West Burdwan district.

Veteran Indian actor Sharmila Tagore would also be honoured with D.Litt by the university during its third convocation event on May 26.

"Apart from the two eminent personalities, renowned physicist S.M. Yusuf of Bhaba Atomic Research Centre will also be conferred with honorary D.Sc degree," Vice Chancellor Sadhan Chakraborty said.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be present at the programme as the chief guest while Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi will deliver the address as the chancellor.

An estimated 450 students will be given the post graduation citations and 19 will be conferred rank holder university medals at the convocation.

The university was established under the West Bengal Act XIX of 2012 in Asansol and was named after the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul of India who is also the national poet of Bangladesh.
